Baby Steps

Every new day feels like a success.  Quincy has had a couple of good days in a row.  We are so happy that she is off the ventilator and on the C-pap.  It breathes for her if she forgets.  And occasionally she does.  Even with occasional forgetfulness she is doing great.   This is phase two of four to get her breathing entirely on her own.
Robyn has been able to hold her skin-to-skin for the past couple of days.   The first day was over an hour and the second was about three hours.  They both love it.  Quincy settles right down and her breathing does too.  She knows her mommy.
Another big watermark was reached yesterday too.  She had two huge poopie diapers.  One before Peter and Robyn got there and then one as Rob was finishing changing her diaper.  Those are good indicators that her intestines are working well.
Speaking of intestines, she has increased her milk intake.  In the past two days the doctors have upped it twice. First four ml. every three hours and then yesterday to five.  Hopefully, we will soon see her weight begin to go up.
She also was playing pirate yesterday!  Finally an eye has opened.  Only one.  She seems to be trying really hard to open the other but so far just the right eye is open.  I had no idea, until she was born, that they would still be fused.  She is on schedule opening them.  Her vision (blood vessels) isn't there yet but that should come in the next month.
Yesterday Robyn and Peter were able to hear her voice.  With the ventilator out she can now make little squeaks.  They are music to their ears.
